„China and Europe on the New Silk Road: Connecting Universities„, Hanover, May 13-15, 2020
This conference will be taking place on May 13–15 at Herrenhausen Castle in Hanover/Germany. It will be jointly hosted by the universities of Utrecht and Göttingen as well as Volkswagen Foundation. The conference will mark the conclusions of a multi-year research project on the implications of the New Silk Road for higher education and research in different parts of the world. Also universities like Harvard, Oxford and Tsinghua have been involved in this project.
Recent geopolitical events such as the Sino-US Trade War create waves of uncertainty in higher education regarding international cooperation, the free movement of students, academics, scientific knowledge, and ideas. Meanwhile, there remain many questions pertaining to the changing position of China in the global academic landscapes. The conference will discuss various aspects of the current and future academic relations between China and various European countries. For instance, the conference investigates initiatives undertaken by universities as well as the conditions under which these are taking place. Some leading scholars and academic policy-makers are among the presenters.
